$1.5Mforfeited after a sweepstakes was found to be rigged before it was even played

A California sweepstakes cafe operator forfeited more than $1.5 million after prosecutors said the game results were predetermined by the company's own software, not chance.

The sweepstakes results were not actually dependent on the outcome of the games; they were decided by the software before a customer ever touched the screen. Both the company and its president pleaded guilty in 2015.
