Reporting a scam in Argentina
First hour, in order
- Call your bank. Contact your bank at once to block the account or card and file a formal complaint with it. Keep the complaint number, because the BCRA will ask for it.
- Stop paying. No fee, tax or "release payment" ever unlocks money that does not exist.
- Screenshot everything before you delete an app, block a number or close an account.
- Then report using the routes below. Reporting is slower than the bank call, and less urgent, but it is what produces enforcement.
Argentina’s specialist route for online fraud is UFECI, the federal prosecutors’ cybercrime unit in Buenos Aires. It receives complaints and runs preliminary investigations, and its page lists a dedicated complaints email, [email protected], alongside a phone number.
If the fraud went through a bank, start with the bank. The central bank, BCRA, runs an online fraud and scam complaint, but only after you have complained to the bank, waited at least 10 business days without a satisfactory answer and filed a police or judicial report.
We found no single national scam hotline. Reporting is split between prosecutors, the police, the central bank and consumer defence, and it is designed for residents, so a victim abroad should also report through their own country’s fraud channel.
Where to report
Unidad Fiscal Especializada en Ciberdelincuencia (UFECI), Ministerio Público Fiscal

Also worth using
- Banco Central de la República Argentina (BCRA), fraud or scam complaint · +54 11 4348-3500
- Defensa del Consumidor (national consumer defence) · 0800-666-1518
What not to do
- Do not pay anyone to recover your money. No legitimate service charges an up-front fee to get stolen funds back, and people who have just been scammed are the primary market for recovery scams.
- Do not use contact details the scammer gave you, not the phone number, not the "support" chat, not a link in a message. Look the agency up yourself.
- Do not delete the evidence. Apps, chats, wallet addresses and transaction IDs are what make a report actionable.
- Do not send one more payment. This is where most of the largest losses happen.
