Reporting a scam in Ghana
First hour, in order
- Call your bank. Tell your bank or mobile-money provider first. The Bank of Ghana's complaints office is the escalation route if the bank does not resolve it.
- Stop paying. No fee, tax or "release payment" ever unlocks money that does not exist.
- Screenshot everything before you delete an app, block a number or close an account.
- Then report using the routes below. Reporting is slower than the bank call, and less urgent, but it is what produces enforcement.
Ghana has a single, purpose-built channel for online fraud: the Cyber Security Authority (CSA), whose CERT-GH team takes cybercrime and cybersecurity incident reports. You can call or text 292, use the online incident form, send an email to [email protected], message the CSA on WhatsApp (0501603111) or report through the CSA GHANA mobile app. The CSA has published advisories on fraudulent online investment schemes, business impersonation and fake parcel-delivery messages.
If money left a Ghanaian bank or mobile-money account, tell that provider first, then escalate to the Bank of Ghana complaints office if you get nowhere. The 292 line and the web form are built for people in Ghana, so a victim abroad should expect to use the online form or email, and should also report through their own country’s fraud channel.

What not to do
- Do not pay anyone to recover your money. No legitimate service charges an up-front fee to get stolen funds back, and people who have just been scammed are the primary market for recovery scams.
- Do not use contact details the scammer gave you, not the phone number, not the "support" chat, not a link in a message. Look the agency up yourself.
- Do not delete the evidence. Apps, chats, wallet addresses and transaction IDs are what make a report actionable.
- Do not send one more payment. This is where most of the largest losses happen.
