Fact #30 EnforcementNumbers

83,668WhatsApp accounts India says it blocked for digital arrest scams by March 2025

By March 2025 India told Parliament it had blocked 83,668 WhatsApp accounts and more than 3,962 Skype IDs used for digital arrest scams, yet keeps no separate national count of such cases.

The answers say the National Crime Records Bureau does not maintain digital arrest data separately, so victim numbers and losses remain unverified allegations rather than measured totals. SIM cards and handsets blocked for cyber fraud generally kept rising.
