$2.1 billionbilled to Medicare in a 2019 crackdown on genetic cancer-test fraud
In 2019 federal prosecutors charged 35 people, including nine doctors, in Operation Double Helix, a crackdown on cancer genetic testing fraud in which Medicare was billed $2.1 billion.
Charges are allegations and each person is presumed innocent unless convicted. Bills typically ran $7,000 to $12,000, and patients often never received results.
