Fact #137 EnforcementHistory

80 yearsPrison sentence imposed in absentia on a fled home health fraud defendant

A Houston home health company defrauded Medicare of $13 million; co-owner Ebong Tilong skipped his 2017 sentencing, was sentenced in absentia to 80 years, and was extradited from Cameroon in 2021.

Cameroon's president signed an extradition decree, and US Marshals brought Tilong back to Houston, in what is described as the first extradition from Cameroon to the United States. His wife and co-owner, Marie Neba, was separately sentenced to 75 years for the same scheme.
