Reporting a scam in Italy
First hour, in order
- Call your bank. Call your bank's fraud or card-blocking line immediately and ask it to block the card or account and attempt to recall the transfer.
- Stop paying. No fee, tax or "release payment" ever unlocks money that does not exist.
- Screenshot everything before you delete an app, block a number or close an account.
- Then report using the routes below. Reporting is slower than the bank call, and less urgent, but it is what produces enforcement.
Italy’s Polizia Postale, the police unit for online crime, runs the main reporting site, commissariatodips.it. It has two separate tools that are easy to confuse. “Segnala online” is a tip form for flagging suspicious sites and behaviour, and the site says it cannot be used to file a formal complaint. For a real complaint about fraud, use the online pre-report (denuncia per reati telematici). It covers scams, computer fraud and misuse of payment cards, but it only starts the process: you must formalise it at a police office within 48 hours, by appointment, so it is not a remote-only route for someone who is outside Italy.
We did not find a verified phone number for reporting fraud to the Polizia Postale, so none is listed. If you are in Italy and need to report in person, go to any police station. Before sending money to any trading or investment platform, check Consob’s warnings, and call your bank immediately if money has already moved.

What not to do
- Do not pay anyone to recover your money. No legitimate service charges an up-front fee to get stolen funds back, and people who have just been scammed are the primary market for recovery scams.
- Do not use contact details the scammer gave you, not the phone number, not the "support" chat, not a link in a message. Look the agency up yourself.
- Do not delete the evidence. Apps, chats, wallet addresses and transaction IDs are what make a report actionable.
- Do not send one more payment. This is where most of the largest losses happen.
