Reporting a scam in Turkey
First hour, in order
- Call your bank. Call your bank's fraud line at once and ask it to block the transfer, then file a police report.
- Stop paying. No fee, tax or "release payment" ever unlocks money that does not exist.
- Screenshot everything before you delete an app, block a number or close an account.
- Then report using the routes below. Reporting is slower than the bank call, and less urgent, but it is what produces enforcement.
Turkey’s police run a Cybercrime Department (Siber Suçlarla Mücadele Daire Başkanlığı) inside the National Police, with its own pages on fraud, social-media fraud, ATM fraud and marriage-promise fraud. We could verify its Ankara phone number and email, but not a dedicated online portal for foreign victims. In practice, a report is a criminal complaint filed with the police or a prosecutor’s office.
For scam calls and SMS, the telecom regulator BTK takes consumer complaints on 120 or through its online form. For investment schemes, check SPK’s list of unlicensed capital-market activities. The police warn that officials never ask for account numbers, money or gold. Most of this infrastructure is in Turkish and aimed at residents, so a victim abroad should also report through their own country’s fraud channel.
Where to report
Emniyet Genel Müdürlüğü, Siber Suçlarla Mücadele Daire Başkanlığı (Turkish National Police, Cybercrime Department)
Phone: +90 312 462 55 00
Also worth using
- Bilgi Teknolojileri ve İletişim Kurumu (BTK), consumer contact centre · 120
- Sermaye Piyasası Kurulu (SPK, Capital Markets Board) · +90 312 292 90 90
- Siber Güvenlik Başkanlığı (Cyber Security Presidency)
What not to do
- Do not pay anyone to recover your money. No legitimate service charges an up-front fee to get stolen funds back, and people who have just been scammed are the primary market for recovery scams.
- Do not use contact details the scammer gave you, not the phone number, not the "support" chat, not a link in a message. Look the agency up yourself.
- Do not delete the evidence. Apps, chats, wallet addresses and transaction IDs are what make a report actionable.
- Do not send one more payment. This is where most of the largest losses happen.
