Reporting a scam in Vietnam
First hour, in order
- Call your bank. Contact your bank immediately and ask it to block the transaction, then report to the police.
- Stop paying. No fee, tax or "release payment" ever unlocks money that does not exist.
- Screenshot everything before you delete an app, block a number or close an account.
- Then report using the routes below. Reporting is slower than the bank call, and less urgent, but it is what produces enforcement.
Vietnam’s fraud reporting is fragmented, and we could not verify a single agency or hotline built to take reports of financial scams such as investment or romance fraud. What does exist is a system for scam and spam calls and messages. It is hosted at nospam.vncert.vn under the Ministry of Public Security’s Cyber Security Department, and it takes reports by web form, by free SMS to 156 or 5656, or by calling 156.
For losses of money, the guidance we could verify is simply to report to the police in person, at the nearest police office, or send a written complaint by post, and that guidance comes from state press rather than a ministry page. We found no official, English-language portal for foreign victims. Call your bank right away to try to stop the transfer, and if the scam reached you from Vietnam while you live elsewhere, report it through your own country’s fraud channel as well.

What not to do
- Do not pay anyone to recover your money. No legitimate service charges an up-front fee to get stolen funds back, and people who have just been scammed are the primary market for recovery scams.
- Do not use contact details the scammer gave you, not the phone number, not the "support" chat, not a link in a message. Look the agency up yourself.
- Do not delete the evidence. Apps, chats, wallet addresses and transaction IDs are what make a report actionable.
- Do not send one more payment. This is where most of the largest losses happen.
