$23.5Mordered in restitution after a fake Heisman Trophy was used as loan collateral

A Chicago federal court ordered a memorabilia dealer to pay $23,552,370 in restitution to at least 26 victims after he pledged a fake Heisman Trophy as collateral for a $100,000 loan.

Prosecutors say John Rogers kept selling fake memorabilia, including a phony Super Bowl I football, even after his guilty plea, using a proxy so buyers would not know he was involved. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison in December 2017.
